Sexual counseling, or sex therapy focuses on
the specific problem the person or couple is having. It is usually
brief therapy with the goal of sex education, sexual enhancement
and anxiety reduction. Sex therapy is a process and it involves
identifying problems, accessing suppressed emotions, practicing
a variety of specific exercises, conducting home assignments
to be done with your partner, reading various books, and sometimes
journaling results. Most qualified sex therapists use the PLISSIT
model founded by Dr. Jack Annon. It stands for:
